Structural Editing or Substantive Editing, is the first phase of professional editing once you have self edited and rewritten your manuscript and achieved the best you can.

Structural editing assesses your manuscript as a whole, ensuring readability, believable characters, authentic worlds, pace, commercial viability, genre integrity, story flow, plot progression, character arcs, tense, POV, and voice. Plot holes and lost consistency can be identified.

Structural Editing is the big picture, ensuring a cohesive, page turning read, and that the reader experience is as the author envisions. Following a structural edit the writer integrates the changes they choose through isolated or a whole rewrite, prior to working with a copy, sensitivity and proof editors.

I specialise in fiction for Children, Young Adult, New Adult and Crossover audiences. I focus on Epic Fantasy, Super Natural, Folklore, CliFi, Apocalypse genres and Gothic Literature.

Structural/Substantive editing is quoted on word count, scope, and schedule eg an urgent turnaround may occur a higher fee. I will always do my best to accommodate your needs. As a fellow creative I understand and respect the energy you have put into bringing your concept to reality. Australian Book Industry Standards and Professional Editors rates of pay are adhered to.
